Open Call for Antiques

Calling all lovers of Insomnia. . . Do you have any antiques sitting around the house collecting dust that you’d love to see being used and appreciated daily in our coffeehouse?  We’re on the lookout right now for a couple specific items and we wanted to open the door for patrons’ items first.  Imagine sitting in a comfy chair at Insomnia with a warm, cozy latte and looking up at what was your old gaudy chandelier that (truth be known) looked awful in your dining room but incredible hanging with our eclectic group of other lighting fixtures. . .or seeing that table that has rich history from being hauled down the Oregon trail (but is now collecting laundry in the den) being loved and admired in our comfortable setting.  It’s re-using . . .giving the old, new life!

Now, so there is no confusion, we are looking for specific items that have a specific feel.  IMPORTANT: Please do not get offended or allow your feelings to get hurt if we don’t need/choose your beloved item. . .we still like YOU, we just have a specific vision for the look and practical use of the shop.

What we’re looking for:

  • - old doors
  • - several chandeliers
  • - small tables
  • - chairs
  • - old desks
  • - antique buffet
  • - bookshelf
  • - benches
  • - church pew
  • - wingback chairs
  • - small sidetables
  • - floor lamp

If you feel you have something that would go great in our shop, please email us a description, a picture, asking price and your contact info.  We will be amassing the furniture over the next couple months and we would love to formulate the new location around pieces from our customers!  Our email address: insomniacoffeecompany@yahoo.com

Thanks for helping us make our coffeehouse, YOUR coffeehouse.  :)

Wow…we’ve made it to 3 years!  Our “baby” is now a toddler!  As we look back at our humble beginnings, we’re so grateful for those loyal customers/friends that have stuck with us all this time as we learned what we were doing!  We’re amazed at HOW MANY of our patrons today started coming within our first two weeks, way back when!  What a joy to know each of you!!

And we thank our fantastic employees, some of which have been here over TWO years!  Wow…talk about passionate baristas!  We love you and can’t say enough wonderful things about each of you…now get back to work.  ;)

Here’s to the next 3 years…and many, many more!  Cheers!

Shamrock Run 2010

Okay, friends!  It’s time to get off the couch, set your latte down on the coffee table and get ready to RUN!  A couple employees, customers and friends are participating in Portland’s Shamrock Run this year, running anywhere from a 5k to 8k.  If you can make it out to the waterfront on March 14th, cheer for your fellow coffee lovers!

UPDATE:

WE DID IT!  Evan, Tyler, Lindsey, Adam, Bri and a bunch of friends joined 21,000 other runners and hit the pavement down by the waterfront.  We ran the 8k (5 miles) and had a blast!  As we were rounding a corner about two miles into the run, we heard a bystander shout, “Hey, the guys from Insomnia!”  Fun to have fans even there!

Oregonian recognizes Insomnia

Last year we were nominated for and received Washington County’s Recycle at Work Business Award, recognizing our efforts to be sustainable and recycle at the shop.  And now the Oregonian picked up the story and published it yesterday.  Cool!

Here’s the full story.
