Building Permits!

Friends, we finally have what we’ve been waiting on for so long…BUILDING PERMITS!  This means our second location is kicking into high gear.  Pretty soon we’ll have walls built, a bar set up, wood flooring installed, chandeliers hanging, equipment running…  Oh my, our “to-do” list is quite long!  But we wanted to share our joy with you.  Whenever you have a moment, swing by our new place and peek in the windows…now that we have the permits, you’ll start to see progress!  And keep checking back here.  Soon we’ll announce our target open date!  Yay!

Doing it the right way…

We like to think we’re doing things the right way.  And then when SOMEONE ELSE says we are, we start to really believe it!  Recently, Marah Creative, Portland’s experts in marketing/social media, highlighted us as a coffee shop doing things the right way, specifically with social media and our website (which we think is awesome, thanks to our web designer Paula!).  We really take social media seriously as it is a tangible way to reach out and communicate with our customers/friends…it’s a way to create and maintain our community feel.

So thank you, Marah Creative, for your recognition!  Click here for their review!

June 2010’s Artist – Daniel Mason

“I have found that mixed medias including ink, graphite and water colour, best serve to heighten the contrast between the vast array of images present in my work, the positive space and the negative. My desire to effectively portray our world as the often confusing jumbled mass of nature and industry that it is, depends on drawing such contrasts as well as any semblance of unity.” – Daniel Mason from his website, http://danielmasonstudio.com

Daniel Mason’s artwork will be hanging at Insomnia for the month of June.

Pouregon features Insomnia

We have just been featured on Pouregon, a blog that celebrates Oregon Wine, Oregon Beer, Coffee and the places that pour them.  Their glowing review was so kind.  Thanks, Mike, for recognizing those local businesses that are doing things right!

Progress!

Things are coming along quite nicely at the new location.  As we’re waiting on building permits for the electrical and plumbing, they’ve already started walling off our section of the space.  Yesterday I put up COMING SOON signs in the windows for passerbys to know they’ll be able to enjoy our product in no time!  Large signs will be installed within the next two weeks; equipment and furniture is accumulating at a comfortable pace…I just love it when a plan comes together!

Open Call for Antiques

Calling all lovers of Insomnia. . . Do you have any antiques sitting around the house collecting dust that you’d love to see being used and appreciated daily in our coffeehouse?  We’re on the lookout right now for a couple specific items and we wanted to open the door for patrons’ items first.  Imagine sitting in a comfy chair at Insomnia with a warm, cozy latte and looking up at what was your old gaudy chandelier that (truth be known) looked awful in your dining room but incredible hanging with our eclectic group of other lighting fixtures. . .or seeing that table that has rich history from being hauled down the Oregon trail (but is now collecting laundry in the den) being loved and admired in our comfortable setting.  It’s re-using . . .giving the old, new life!

Now, so there is no confusion, we are looking for specific items that have a specific feel.  IMPORTANT: Please do not get offended or allow your feelings to get hurt if we don’t need/choose your beloved item. . .we still like YOU, we just have a specific vision for the look and practical use of the shop.

What we’re looking for:

  • - old doors
  • - several chandeliers
  • - small tables
  • - chairs
  • - old desks
  • - antique buffet
  • - bookshelf
  • - benches
  • - church pew
  • - wingback chairs
  • - small sidetables
  • - floor lamp

If you feel you have something that would go great in our shop, please email us a description, a picture, asking price and your contact info.  We will be amassing the furniture over the next couple months and we would love to formulate the new location around pieces from our customers!  Our email address: insomniacoffeecompany@yahoo.com

Thanks for helping us make our coffeehouse, YOUR coffeehouse.  :)
